Well, well, well...Lil' Chickpea went out in the backyard these past two days...just when I was saying she hasn't gone out much lately. I guess she isn't that afraid of raccoons or coyotes...heh. Just yesterday, she even brought me back a mouse to play with...or maybe she wanted me to eat it...I don't know. Mr. Chickpea trapped the mouse and brought it back outside. Good thing he was around because I don't deal with the live ones...just the dead ones. I don't like that a mouse could jump and run up my leg! I didn't used to be so squeamish about mice...but just the way they scurry so fast...it gives me the heebie jeebies and I'm afraid of getting bit.
Lil' chickpea seems to have been sick the past few days. First she threw up some of her food and then she had diarrhea for a day or two. Good thing she was consistent about using the litter box when she had to go! Bad thing was that she ended up with some of her butt fur soiled with smelly poop...ugh...so gross. I had to cut the poopy fur off...so gross. I guess it's just part of the hazards of having a house pet. At least she didn't track any poop anywhere...that I know of!
The oven doesn't work anymore. Not sure what is wrong exactly. It's probably the oven igniter that is broken. It's good in that I can get a new range since the current one is probably over 20 years old. The bad thing is that it seems to have been custom fitted for the space so it'll be hard to find a new range that will fit in there! I actually want to renovate the kitchen but we are not ready for that yet and I want a new range NOW. I didn't realize how much I use the oven until I suddenly can't use it anymore. And I desperately need to have some freshly baked cookies or Tyler Florence's chocolate banana cake NOW...grrrr!
Chickpea is my cat. That's her you see in the pictures on the side. She was a little stray kitten I started feeding when I was living at an apartment on my parents' property. She was mainly an outdoor cat back then. Then I met Mr. Chickpea and even though he was allergic to cats, he grew immune to her and started letting her inside the apartment at night. Little by little she got used to being inside. Then Chickpea moved with us when we got married and moved to our current home. She's turned into an indoor cat mostly. Well, during the Spring and Summer months, she's outside more, but she mainly resides indoors. We've got coyotes in the neighborhood, so she's smart to stay indoors now. She's a strange cat...very anti-social. The only humans she let get close were me and Mr. Chickpea. She doesn't like to be picked up and held. She doesn't sit on laps. She only likes for you to pet her while on the floor and will barely tolerate it if you sit next to her on the floor! She's a great little hunter though. Back at the apartment property, she hunted lots of birds, mice and lizards. Here at the house, she mainly hunts mice outside and has brought in at least 20 mice (that we know of becuase we had to catch them!) since last July. Who knows how many she's lost in the house when we weren't home or eaten before we were able to get to the mice! Speaking of mice, I never used to be scared of them, but now I don't know what it is...maybe it's the scurrying they do. I'm afraid they'll jump on me and run up my leg when trying to escape from the cat! It gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it.
For all the cuteness and bare companionship from Chickpea, I'm really missing being able to hug and cuddle with a cat! My previous cat was very affectionate and loved to be held and all that. It pains me to say it, but I'm definitely looking forward to when I can get another kitty that will definitely be more affectionate than Chickpea! I don't think we can get another cat until Chickpea is gone...she's that antisocial! (Heh...a lot like me I guess...likes being alone...not many close friends, etc.) She won't tolerate another kitty I'm sure of it. I've seen her in confrontations with neighborhood cats and she screams bloody murder if another cat gets too close to her.
I'm not sure how I became such a cat person. I like dogs too. I had a pet dog once. I even want to get a dog now too...but Mr. Chickpea doesn't think dogs and cats can live together. It's unnatural he says! And definitely Chickpea will not tolerate a dog in her home!
Oh yeah, I have to be careful too...Mr. Chickpea could easily turn into Mr. Cat Lady! Haha!
