I finished A Certain Justice a while ago and have started on Family Honor by Robert B. Parker. A Certain Justice was pretty good. I was interested in the characters and in finding out who was the killer...well...who was one of the killers. And one of the killers got away with a murder.
Family Honor is the first in the series featuring Sunny Randall. It's been kind of a quick read because the story is written in such a way that it's mainly dialogue. I don't know if all the books in this series will be like that, but I'm enjoying it so far. And the main character is a strong female lead, so...I think I'll be reading the rest of the books in this series.
I finished Notes on a Scandal a few days ago. It was a pretty good read. The narrator was definitely a manipulative "friend" and was very sarcastic and droll with her introspective comments about all the other characters around her.
I started A Certain Justice by P.D. James but haven't had any interest in it beyond reading a couple of pages into the first chapter. I will have to really start reading it soon since it's a library book and must be returned soon. It's one in the series featuring Adam Dalgliesh.
I finished No Second Chance by Harlan Coben. It was pretty good! When I got near the end, I just couldn't put the book down even though it was way past my bedtime. I couldn't find a spot to stop reading. I had to read all the way to the end. It definitely was a page turner.
Next on the reading list is another Harlan Coben book, Just One Look. This is another stand alone story. I just started it and am on Chapter 2 and it's already getting pretty interesting. I definitely will be reading more books by Harlan Coben.
Next on the reading list is No Second Chance by Harlan Coben. I've never read anything by this author before so I have no idea what the book will be like. I guess you can classify it as a suspense thriller-mystery. Actually, the next couple of books on my reading docket are suspense thriller type stories.
I just finished The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides. It was an interesting read...it took me a while to figure out the angle. I was trying to figure out who exactly was telling the story and I think that kind of hung me up for a bit. And you don't quite really know why the suicides happened because the story teller was on the outside looking in, so you are getting the story sort of second hand. I was somewhat dissatisfied at the end of the story since you don't know why the suicides happened and I wanted to know more about the girls' lives inside the house...but I guess that's part of the mystique of the story.
I finally finished Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire. It took me a long time to read it mostly because I would only read a few pages and then get sleepy and have to put it down so I could go to bed! I wouldn't have put down this book so easily each night if it had really grabbed me...it didn't. The story never really caught my interest enough. I just didn't really care about any of the characters. I just finished the book to finish it, since I always finish reading a book once I start it even if I don't like it. There are a few questions at the end of the story that don't get cleared up...maybe the author is leaving it open for a third book in the series pertaining to Oz.
So next on the reading docket is a British mystery...The Murder Room by P.D. James. I thought I'd give this author a try since I have enjoyed other British writers in the mystery genre. She also wrote the book Children of Men that became a movie recently. That is on my reading list before I watch the movie though. It helps also that Clive Owens is in that movie...he's hawt! So it was on my movie viewing list anyway...heh.
I just finished In the Company of the Courtesan by Sarah Dunant. It was really good...really captured my attention. I think it was too short! I would have loved to spend more time with the main characters of the book. I think if it was made into a film, it would be pretty good...sorta like Girl with the Pearl Earring.
Anyway, next on the docket is The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It sounded interesting when I first caught a review of it in the LA Times. I guess you can categorize it as a mystery, with some fantasy mixed in since it involves the "legend of Dracula".
