...for some competency in the people elected to Congress and the White House? Man, if you thought Bush was incompetent and an idiot before and nothing could be worse...well...WTF? We have a prez that can't talk without a teleprompter. We have liars and tax cheats in Congress. And the "leaders" don't even seem know what's in the Constitution or anything about economics. I just HOPE for CHANGE in four years...if this country as I know it will even last that long.
Mr. Chickpea and I just came back from lunch with the usual gang. I was not really looking forward to lunch because I just knew politics would be brought up. I knew some of the people were on the opposite side of me so I wasn't surprised when I had to listen to all this crap about how McCain and Palin were horrible. I was surprised though by the amount of hatred and vitriol aimed at Sarah Palin by the two ladies in the group. You'd think with them being enlightened feminist Democrat mothers that they'd be supportive of an accomplished woman who is a mother and Governor, but no fucking way. All they did was bash her for being dumb; they criticized Trig for being not "normal" for a Down's baby (that he shouldn't be sleeping so much and looked "slow!!!"); they criticized her as a mother because her 17 year old daughter got pregnant; they called her "white trash"; they said there was no way a woman would do well having a career and a family!" What. The. Fuck?! What about Mr. First Dude? He actually took time to take care of the family when Gov. Palin was working. They totally dismissed him, implying that it was the mother that was most important. Actually, that didn't surprise me since the two also spent much time dissing their husbands' habits that drove them mad. Finally, one of the husbands wanting to get the heat off of him asked me if there was anything Mr. Chickpea did that drove me mad. Of course he does, but I wasn't about to go bashing him in public in front of friends acting like I was the EMPRESS of the house.
I was asked who I was going to vote for. I said it was more like who I was NOT going to vote for, so that left me with voting for McCain and Palin (Country First!). Of course that led to me being asked why I wasn't going to vote for Obamessiah. I said that first, he's a communist (heh) and second, he doesn't have any executive experience. Well, they said Palin doesn't have any experience either. Oh no? She was a MAYOR and is a GOVERNOR. What has Obamessiah done? Reason dismissed, even though they didn't have an answer. Also dismissed was all the experience he does have with associates in his past and present like Wright, Ayers and Rezko. It was A-OK with them that Obamessiah is a Socialist/Marxist. They don't think that they will get fucked up the ass with higher taxes. Well, I hope that they will be willing to "spread their wealth" my way if The One gets to be president. I'm going to personally show up with my hands out for some of that wealth! I'm going to need it.
I was surprised that the husband of one of the ladies was a Republican with him being from Massachusetts. He said he rebelled against his parents who were hippies...hahaha. Actually, I don't know that he's a Republican but I know that he's thinking the same way as me in regard to the commie that may become president. Holy hell...my parents immigrated from China to get away from the commies...and now...to think this country may go that way. Socialism doesn't work. Look at France, Germany and now Canada. They've all chosen governments to the right again...because Socialism DOES NOT WORK.
Oh, we had lunch at Cafe Santorini in Old Town Pasadena. It was pretty good. I had the chicken kebobs this time.
Lazy, blah, blah, lazy, blah, blah, blah...you know the drill. There was also some time off for a vacation, the Beijing Olympics, more books read and more being lazy...heh.
I think this election has finally become exciting...well, it's certainly caught my attention now. Could there be a "Madame President" in the near future????? Even though I'm not religious, even though I'm not a conservative with a capital C, even though I'm not anti-abortion or anti-gay-marriage, I would vote for her if she was running for President right now! I mean, I'd rather choose a pro-American over an anti-ChristAmerican any day...heh. I just don't want to get taxed up the ass, that's all I'm sayin'.
It's funny how Mr. Chickpea and I seem to be on opposite sides a lot. We attended arch-rival universities. We started out in different political parties and while I have crossed over to the dark side and joined the same party as Mr. Chickpea, we still have opposite opinions...WTH? I think we've been canceling out each other's votes....GRRRR! Still we don't fight and go nuts over our opinions...at least we haven't yet...heh. I guess it's all good.
Wow...yeah, I've been LAZY about posting. I've read several books since the last time I posted...and I'm feeling too lazy to post about them now...heh.
Hm...so what's happened? Um...yeah, how about that earthquake a couple of weeks ago? I was at work when it happened and even though we were trained to duck under our desks...I just rode it out...haha. The newly retrofitted building held up well.
How about the Olympics, eh? I was very impressed with the opening ceremonies. China put on a pretty spectacular show I have to say. You know, I don't agree with the Chinese government, but I think this is a good thing for them. Can't we just quit it with the protests and politics for a couple of weeks? Just two little tiny weeks? So all you protesters, just take a vacation or something. Go to a spa and chill. All that whining and screaming about Tibet and human rights, blah, blah, blah...we know. Chinese commie government = BAD. China isn't the only "bad" country to have hosted an Olympics, okay? Let's give them a chance to open up a little more...a little step at a time. Oh, I'm definitely rooting for USA, but I can't help but feel some pride for the country of my ancestors.
What else? Oh...how about that John Edwards? CHEATING CHEATER WHO CHEATS! The cult of Barack "Taxes!" Obama is wigging me out. All those posters and hand signs remind of me of commie propaganda posters. I'm just sayin'. Yeah, I'm not that crazy about McCain either, but...sigh.
How about something other than books for a change? I gotta be more creative with the headings....
1. The Sarah Connor Chronicles - I'm not really a big fan of the Terminator series of movies, but I've seen them all. I thought I'd give the Terminator tv show a try and I'm glad I did. It's a really good show. Actually, what drew me to watch was the casting of Summer Glau as a good terminator. I loved her in the Firefly tv show and the movie Serenity.
2. Ugh...the primaries...Obama...Clinton...blah, blah, blah...McCain...yawn. SO. SICK. OF. IT. ALL. Okay, I'm just mad because my favorite candidate is out and I don't like any of the remaining candidates...especially the leading ones. Maybe I'll base my vote on the spouses. Michelle - obnoxious and patronizing...lady, you live in a mansion and have a six-figure salary, graduated from ivy-league colleges,...you don't have it hard and don't even bring race into it...just shut up already. Bill - womanizing, lying liar-womanizer! Cindy - pretty and quiet so far. Heh.
3. I felt that Project Runway was a little boring this season. Maybe it was the long wait and the anticipation, but it just doesn't have the same pull for me as it did the seasons before. Maybe because there wasn't a clear "villain" this season and there wasn't any crazy drama. MAKE IT WORK already!
4. Not looking forward to a wedding banquet this weekend...seeing relatives...having to endure remarks from aunties like, "Wah, Ms. Chickpea, you're getting fat! You better go on a diet! Hee hee" and "When are you going to have a baby? Don't wait too long...you're getting old you know! Hee hee" S. I. G. HHHHHH.
Well, it looks like there may be someone else to seriously consider for the Republican nomination for President...Mr. Fred Thompson. While I am more of a Rudy Giuliani supporter right now, I may have to take a closer look at Mr. Thompson. Some political pundits out there compare him to Ronald Reagan saying he's probably as close as you can get to a candidate that's like Reagan. I was too young to really appreciate or even be interested in politics when Reagan was President. I remember words like "Iran-Contra Hearings", "Just Say No", "Reaganomics" and the Berlin Wall being torn down. I even remember how one of my junior high school teachers explicity showed her displeasure of having Reagan as President by telling a group of us students that she "blech!" hated him. She probably would have spit on the ground after saying his name, but she didn't...heh. Thinking back, she was probably a raging liberal then...wonder how she's doing now in the Bush era...hahaha! I hope she's still not indoctrinating kids during English.
I am essentially basing my Presidential choice on one issue which is the issue of national security. But I think that encompasses a lot of things besides security at home. It includes protecting US interests abroad, protecting and promoting Western ideas like capitalism and democracy, and tighter border controls. It really bothers me that some people out there misconstrue the call for tighter border controls as being anti-immigration. The so-called activists out there always seem to conveniently leave out the word "ILLEGAL" when they are making their protestations. Whatever. I'm all for immigration as long as you wait your turn dammit! Anyway, where was I going with this entry? Oh yeah, Mr. Thompson. So, yeah, let's see what he has to say on the issues that I'm concerned with. I don't like anything any of the Democratic candidates have to say on the issues I'm concerned with that's for sure.
After a bit of a respite from politics...well...no...I have been keeping up still on politics (the debates, etc.) but I just haven't been paying that close attention to things...at least not enough to let things get to me. I think the leading candidate for me is still Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! So far, none of the Democrats are in contention for my vote. It's still too early I think to make any definite choices. Still waiting to see if there are any others who will actually jump into the fray (Mr. Thompson? Are you in or out?).
Anyway, just some things about politics/the world/recent events that I want to say a bit about:
1) The LAPD going nuts on protesters/marchers/TV news reporters at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles - Yeah, it's bad the police beat on some "innocent" people who didn't hear the orders to disperse or whatever. But, yeah, there were definitely some troublemakers out there provoking the police by throwing bottles and shit(not literally I hope!) at them. And what's with ILLEGAL immigrants demanding rights here? Hey, follow the damn rules to immigrate here and you won't be considered criminals! So easy...heh. Yeah, yeah, you just want to find a better life for your family...well who doesn't? That still doesn't mean you get to come here whenever you want ahead of others who apply to immigrate legally and wait their turn for a better life. That's no excuse to break the law and expect the same rights as citizens.
2) I hope Hillary Rodham Clinton (she's dropping Rodham from her name, didn't you know?) paid attention to the elections in France! The French people have spoken and they said NO to the Socialist. I really wish Sarkozy the best of luck to get that country together. I would like to visit France some time before they succumb to all those "rioting youths" or as I call them, Muslim youths. Hey, just calling them as I see them.
3) Where can I find a "Don't Free Paris" t-shirt?
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention John Edwards in my Rudy post below...what a hypocrite! A 28,000 sq. ft. home????? Yeah, the wife is bragging about their energy efficient house...did I mention it's 28,000 sq. ft.????? How much do you think it costs to heat the place, even if it's all "energy efficient"? A handball court, an indoor pool, a basketball court, and freakin' John's freakin' lounge????? Really??????
Actually, I'm okay with rich people spending their money however they want. Just shut up about being all righteous for the poor and caring for the environment and crap, especially when you are running for President!
I think if the presidential elections were held today...I'd vote for Rudy Giuliani.
Hillary is too much of a Socialist. She wants to take my hard-earned money to pay for everything and everybody else. She wants me to raise your kids when you should be raising your own kids yourself. You had 'em...you raise 'em with your own money...dammit.
Obama...who? What's he done? I don't think I want a newbie running the show. I mean, he hasn't told anyone what he stands for besides spouting nice platitudes and maybe telling you what you want to hear. Maybe give him a few more years to gain some experience and then I'll take another look at him, if he's not too far gone to the other side.
Now, I'm no hardcore conservative Republican. I'm not sure there is a party that combines my liberal and conservative views. I used to vote Democrat. Used to. Until 9/11. Then the lefties lost me. I don't want to be a part of something that denigrates Americans and America. I don't want to be a part of something that thinks talking and more talking with people will make them want to stop killing people who don't believe in their religion. I don't want to be a part of something that thinks the Government should run your life!
So, it looks like Rudy is the frontrunner for me...Go Rudy!
